Derek is comedy, but the reactions to him are serious. Anyone who has worked in HR or L&D recognises the behaviour instantly. That recognition is the point.
We use characters like Derek in our live case studies. The humour lowers the temperature. People relax. They laugh because they’ve seen it in real life. That gives us the space to raise real issues in a safe, supported way.
This isn’t about excusing Derek. It’s a light introduction to how we use exaggeration to help teams talk honestly about behaviour, communication, and impact.
