Blue Beetle Courses

Blue Beetle believes in Work hard. Play harder. Learn more.
Sessions use actors, games, posters, toys, music, interactive exercises, delivery of material and plenty of discussion and involvement for delegates. As part of the team we have presenters, trainers, directors, actors and a complete film and editing team with our own studio set
So, what sort of course are you looking for?
We deliver learning a wide range of subjects, but we are most often asked about:
-
Presentation Skills:Did you know the Number One Fear is not dying nor flying, spiders nor snakes, nor even illness and old age?
The Number One Fear is … speaking in public!
The sweaty palmed, dry mouthed, tongue-tied, visibly shaking presenter or speaker is of little use to anyone.
Equally ineffective is the mono-toned bore. The “wacky” speaker. The person who stands and reads from their notes, or worse, their slides.
Maybe it’s time to refresh, improve and pick up some ideas for helping with your presentations?
We can offer this session, of use to trainers, speakers, those who run meetings or briefings in any format from half a day to three days plus… Our most popular session is a two day course. Totally practical and instantly transferable to the workplace. No embarrassing video but plenty of practice from an experienced and highly skilled team.
-
Coaching:You can tell people how and why until you’re blue in the face, but until they decide for themselves they will never make that change. Many organisations now strive for a “coaching culture” or coaching style of management – but many find it difficult to maintain.
It doesn’t matter how many books on coaching, or how many courses, nor even how long you’ve been coaching at work the one great way to develop and improve your skills is to practice coaching as close to real delegate as possible.
Our massively popular two day session allows delegates to explore what is and isn’t coaching, what to avoid and what to include and how practically to become a better coach. Making extensive use of Forum theatre and one to one practice this course is ideal for all levels and experiences.
Variations allow for one day practice sessions or three day highly skilled versions.

Drowning in paperwork
With so many organisations introducing PDRs, PDPs and a whole variety of new ways to assess their colleagues, it is not surprising that managers and team leaders sometimes feel swamped with demands on their time.
This session focuses on the “how” of running appraisals – away from the instructions of a particular process, this introduces and gives practice for a whole variety of important appraisal skills, including questioning and listening, building rapport, structuring a session, some brilliant tools tips and techniques to get your colleague talking – and how to stop them if necessary – and how to deal with emotion and delivering bad news. We also give delegates plenty of tools to actually do less preparation than currently, and yet get better results.
The course makes use of forum theatre scenes and one to one practice, in a safe and supportive environment.Of use to managers, team leaders and anyone who is already or needs to start running appraisals. The session can be delivered with or without reference to your existing processes.
This course works well as one or two day modules.
We can also deliver a half day version ideal for Appraisees, to help them get more from the appraisal process.

Leadership and Team Building
You can’t be a Leader without a Team and a Team will need someone, or several people, to Lead, to be responsible for key decisions at different times. So at Blue Beetle we like to explore these two areas together – and if you have a Team that needs to be Built, some Leaders that need to learn some Leadership, or a whole group of people that want to avoid the Big Mistakes that many companies make our Team build and Leadership sessions could be just what you are looking for.
Our most popular Leadership and Teambuild sessions are: The Titanic in Two Minutes challenge – suitable for half a day, and up to about thirty people. A range of games and activities to involve everyone
Whose Line is it Anyway – Improvisation sessions – a one day session, with possibility of adding an evening event. Based on the popular television programme – learn how to improvise, then improvise for real. Learn the team and Leadership rules that make this possible
Adrenalin Alchemy … a two – three day event with our partners at www.Preseliventure.com. Experience a powerful mix of classroom training, theatre and live action experiences such as kayaking, coasteering and surfing and take powerful tools, tips and techniques back to the workplace.

Recruitment
Does your organisation always seem to be struggling to fill “bums on seats”? Is there always a bit of a mad dash to get enough staff through your doors? Feel like you have to keep running just to stand still? But did you ever stop to consider the true cost of recruitment? When you consider advertising or agents finders fees, time spent recruiting, interviewing, the salaries spent on a new starter, the impact of someone new in a team and the drop in productivity … all for them to leave within year one? Or the first six months. Or even the first three months.
Maybe the true cost is much, much higher than you ever realised. It might be time to reassess how and why you recruit.
A two day session covering everything from first meeting the candidate, how to get the environment right, what to do with the career history (and what NOT to do), how two or three powerful questions can yield incredible results, using competency questions, and tips and tools to try out immediately. The session includes a section on what you absolutely MUST NEVER ask, and what you always should ask, and how to word it.
Making extensive use of live case studies, and plenty of practice for your delegates this course is ideal for those new to interviewing, or those with experience wanting to refresh their skills.
A one day version is also available.

Customer Service
When was the last time you experienced great customer service? Not good, but great. And how much more often is the “service” you see everywhere something between average and non – existent? With many customers and consumers now listing customer service as one of the most important influences on where they spend money the pressure to get it right has never been greater.
But how do you instil great customer service in a team or company which has become jaded through increasing demands made by both company and customers?
A powerful and entertaining mix of live case studies, totally practical tools and tips and activities and exercises we build around the reality of customer or client service, whether internal or external, or both, in your organisation.
Ideal for a half day or full day session. Delegate numbers are limited only by how interactive you want to get – a smaller session can easily include “one to one” sessions where delegates practice skills learnt with a range of customers and clients supplied by our team.
